World Earth Day
22 April 2020
Today is World Earth Day and the theme for this year is climate action. Many conferences and plans to support climate action have been shelved due to Covid-19 and much research has been put on hold. Whilst it is understandable that climate action has been put on a back burner there may be lessons taken from this global pandemic that can be used in climate action in the coming years.
If we can find an upside to this global pandemic it is that pollution levels have fallen dramatically across the globe with the UK estimating a reduction in NO2 emissions of almost 60%. Usually cloudy, Venice canals are now clear with shoals of fish seen swimming in them and wild boar have been seen in Barcelona!
